Authorities in Thailand are seeking to legalise the development of integrated resorts to attract foreign tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Thailand.- The government of Thailand is studying the possibility of\u00a0allowing the development of integrated resorts <\/strong>and casinos. The Thai House of Representatives voted on Thursday to establish a 60-member “special committee” to study the proposal with the aim of \u200b\u200battracting foreign tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s said the committee will include 15 representatives from the Thai cabinet and 45 members from various political parties across the country. The team is expected to complete its research within 90 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Bangkok Post, Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister<\/strong>, said the committee will study the \u201cethical issues\u201d related to casinos and what form of the legal framework can ensure the business will be properly regulated and taxed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now,\u00a0betting is totally illegal in Thailand, <\/strong>aside from the state lotteries and horse racings\u00a0through the Bangkok Turf Club. Nonetheless, illegal gambling is widespread. In October,\u00a0police arrested 30 people<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>during a raid at a luxury resort that hosted an alleged gambling den in Bang Lamung. In a five-hour raid,\u00a0officers seized gambling paraphernalia and cash<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those arrested face multiple charges for gambling and violations of Covid-19 restrictions\u00a0<\/strong>and will appear in court for trial.\u00a0In July, police\u00a0arrested 18 people\u00a0<\/strong>in\u00a0raids on two houses<\/a>\u00a0in Pathum Thani that were allegedly being used as bases for an online gambling syndicate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
