Bernstein has predicted that Macau\u2019s GGR for December could be down by 68 per cent when compared to pre-pandemic levels but up 8 per cent month-on-month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.-<strong>\u00a0Analysts at Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd<\/strong> have predicted that Macau\u2019s GGR for December could be down 68 per cent when compared to December 2019 levels. However,<strong>\u00a0the figure may see a rise of 8 per cent month-on-month<\/strong>, with chances of improvement in the mass gaming market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recovery of the Macau market in December is likely to be driven by the mass and premium mass gaming sector and non-gaming products and services.\u00a0Analysts noted, however, that the VIP gaming business may face challenges through the last month of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JPMorgan Chase Securities (Asia Pacific) Co has said that it &#8220;may have reason to assume\u201d that VIP gambling by intermediaries in the Macau market \u201cwill eventually approach zero\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That comes after the detention of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/suncity-group-chairman-arrested-in-macau\">Alvin Chau Cheok Wa<\/a>, Suncity Group chairman, in Macau for allegedly assisting clients from mainland China in illegal gambling, including online gambling through the Philippines. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/suncity-group-closes-all-vip-rooms-in-macau\">Suncity Group Holdings<\/a>\u00a0has decided to\u00a0<strong>close all of its VIP rooms in Macau<\/strong>\u00a0until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts at JP Morgan stated: &#8220;We think the message from the Chinese central government is clear, in that junkets\u2019 proactive gambling promotion \u2013 such as credit extension and foreign exchange transfer, among others \u2013 for mainlanders will not be tolerated.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-54-6-in-november\">Macau\u2019s gross gaming revenue\u00a0<\/a>was up 54.6 per cent month-on-month in November, from MOP4.37bn (US$544m) to MOP6.75bn (US$844m). The figure was also up slightly when compared to November 2020. The positive numbers were driven by a rise in daily average visitor numbers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>October had seen the lowest monthly GGR of 2021, mainly due to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-faces-new-covid-19-cases-in-october-golden-week\">an outbreak of local Covid-19 cases<\/a>\u00a0at the beginning of the month, which led to low numbers of tourist arrivals for the October Golden Week. Aggregate\u00a0<strong>casino GGR for the first eleven months of the year<\/strong>\u00a0totals MOP78.90bn, up 49.9 per cent year-on-year from MOP52.62bn in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sanford C.
