It reported that <strong>more than 160,000 suspects have been detained<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cross-border online gambling and betting at brick-and-mortar casinos were both targets of the investigation. The Global Times did not provide a breakdown of the number of cases for each but said enforcement actions had led to the\u00a0<strong>closure of 5,100 &#8220;gambling platforms&#8221; and 3,900 &#8220;illegal payment platforms&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>and underground banks. It said this has had the effect of &#8220;effectively curbing the rampant trend of cross-border gambling.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of this month,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-142-suspected-of-organising-travels-to-gamble-at-tigre-de-cristal\">police dismantled a cross-border gambling operation<\/a>\u00a0that organised trips for Chinese citizens to gamble at\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/tigre-de-cristal-revenue-surpasses-pre-pandemic-levels\">Tigre de Cristal<\/a>, located in\u00a0<strong>the Primorye Gambling Zone in Russia.\u00a0<\/strong>Some 142 suspects were identified and 75 prosecuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The security departments said they found&nbsp;<strong>RMB 1.6bn (US$250m) was being used for gambling<\/strong>. They identified 18 shelf companies, which they said were used for capital transfers.
