The Hong Kong Jockey Club has announced Gabriel Leung will be its new executive director for charities and the community from July 18, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong.-\u00a0The Hong Kong Jockey Club<\/a>\u00a0(HKJC) has confirmed that\u00a0Gabriel Leung\u00a0<\/strong>will replace Leong Cheung as its executive director for charities and the community next year when Cheung’s tenure ends. Leung will report directly to the Jockey Club\u2019s chief executive\u00a0Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leung previously worked as an undersecretary for food and health for the Hong Kong government between 2008 to 2012 and is currently Dean of the University of Hong Kong\u2019s Faculty of Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As HKJC executive director for charities and the community,\u00a0he will have responsibility for HKJC\u2019s charitable strategies and policies\u00a0<\/strong>and the correct application and distribution of funds to guarantee a positive social impact.\u00a0He will also have to increase the institution’s charitable work in order to meet the government’s requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HK Jockey Club posts record betting turnover for 2020\/21 season<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The HKJC<\/a>\u00a0posted a\u00a0turnover of HK$279.7bn (US$35.9bn)<\/strong>\u00a0in its financial results for the 2020\/21 season. Most of that came from\u00a0racing betting<\/strong>, which brought in HK$136.1bn, up 12.5 per cent year-on-year.\u00a0Football betting turnover was up 54 per cent to HK$140.2bn\u00a0<\/strong>and football betting duty was up 47.4 per cent to HK$9.25bn thanks to the resumption of major leagues, Euro 2020 and Copa America 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mark Six lottery resumed in May 2021 <\/strong>leading to a turnover of HK$3.4bn, down 34.3 per cent when compared to the previous financial year. Revenue from the World Pool<\/strong>, which launched for Royal Ascot in 2019, was up 88.1 per cent, contributing 17 per cent of club turnover.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
