A new Independent Casino Commission will be created next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.- Catherine Myers has resigned as CEO of Victoria&#8217;s regulator the VCGLR ahead of the creation of a new\u00a0<strong>Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCC)<\/strong>, which will replace the regulator from next year. Myers was in the position for seven years but faced criticism during the Royal Commission into <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/crown-resorts-found-unsuitable-to-operate-crown-melbourne\">Crown Melbourne<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Royal Commission looked into whether the regulator had failed in its role regulating the casino, but <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australia-vcglr-cleared-of-corruption-and-wrongdoing\">QC Ian Freckelton<\/a>\u00a0concluded that there was<strong> no evidence of corruption and wrongdoing at the VCGLR<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scott May will replace Myers as VCLR CEO<\/strong>. He has previously worked as general counsel and executive director of regulatory policy and legal services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ross Kennedy, VCGLR chair<\/strong>, thanked Myers. He said: &#8220;she had implemented sweeping cultural reform and strengthened compliance and regulatory activities, leading an organisation committed to service delivery, integrity and regulating to minimise harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new regulator is expected to be launched on January 1, 2022. In August,\u00a0<strong>Melissa Horne,\u00a0<\/strong>the state\u2019s minister for consumer affairs, gaming and liquor regulation, said\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australia-vcglr-to-be-replaced-by-a-new-casino-control-commission\">the VGCC would be stricter<\/a>\u00a0than the VCFLR and it wouldn\u2019t tolerate unethical practices.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catherine Myers has resigned as chief executive officer of the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation.
