{"id":24173,"date":"2021-11-03T09:19:45","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T12:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=24173"},"modified":"2026-04-23T14:12:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T17:12:09","slug":"mgm-orix-could-benefit-from-japan-election-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/mgm-orix-could-benefit-from-japan-election-results","title":{"rendered":"MGM-Orix could benefit from Japan election results"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Analysts stated the result of Japan&#8217;s general elections is positive for the country&#8217;s plan to encourage IR developments, especially for the MGM-Orix consortium in Osaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Japan.-&nbsp;Analysts believe the results of Japan&#8217;s general elections last weekend could be positive news for the country\u2019s integrated resort plans, especially for Osaka Prefecture and its partner, the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/osaka-announces-mgm-orix-as-ir-partner\">MGM-Orix consortium<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The elections gave a victory to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/japans-next-prime-minister-in-favour-of-ir-developments\">Fumio Kishida<\/a>, Japan\u2019s prime minister as of October 4, and his Liberal Democratic Party, but Osaka&#8217;s right-wing Ishin To party made big gains, going from 11 to 41 seats to become the third-largest party in the country. In Osaka, the party completely expelled the Liberal Democratic Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industry executive&nbsp;<strong>Daniel Cheng stated<\/strong>: &#8220;If Osaka was already the firm favourite prior to the election, it is even more certain now that they will bring the licence bacon home and<strong>&nbsp;Bill Hornbuckle can start heating up the grill in his backyard&nbsp;<\/strong>and invite his ORIX partners for an early celebration barbecue.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the capital, the ruling party has lost some advantage to opposition but it would be unlikely to upset a possible IR bid from Governor Koike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cheng added, &#8220;the road looks clear for the continuation in the ongoing six-month host bid submission.&#8221;&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/japan-opens-application-period-for-ir-submissions-until-april-2022\">Host cities and prefectures have until April 2022<\/a>&nbsp;to forward their final integrated resort proposals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are currently only&nbsp;<strong>three cities expected to bid for them:&nbsp;<\/strong>Nagasaki, Osaka and Wakayama. All three could be chosen; however, it is possible that the public authority picks only one or two, or even none.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MGM-Orix IR expects US$3.87bn in annual gaming sales<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Osaka Prefecture, the planned&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/osaka-announces-mgm-orix-as-ir-partner\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MGM-Orix integrated resort development<\/a>&nbsp;could generate JPY430bn (US$3.87bn) in annual gaming sales and JPY110bn non-gaming sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>MGM-Orix<\/strong>&nbsp;consortium had proposed to invest&nbsp;<strong>JPY1tn (US$9.1bn)&nbsp;<\/strong>and expects to welcome 20.5 million visitors per year.
