The sessions were held on October 22, 23, 24 and 25, later than planned due to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-law-consultation-session-cancelled-again\">local Covid-19 cases<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-cancels-third-gaming-law-consultation-session\">Typhoon Kompasu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau Business said<strong>\u00a0the meetings were attended by representatives from gaming and junket operators<\/strong>, gaming sector workers, representatives of the social services sector, the legal sector, the education sector, associations and private citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendees expressed <strong>concerns about the number and duration of future gaming concessions<\/strong>\u00a0and proposed controls on dividend distribution. A <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/lawyers-contest-controls-over-macau-casino-dividend-distribution\">Macau law firm<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0questioned that proposal, arguing that \u201c<strong>there is no legal framework to justify any intervention by the Macau authorities<\/strong>\u00a0in the distribution of dividends from private companies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions about a possible&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-likely-to-end-sub-concessions-system-for-casino-operators\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">end to the current sub-concession system<\/a>&nbsp;that led to the creation of three additional Macau casino licences also arose during the sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lei Wai Nong, Macau\u2019s Secretary for Economy and Finance<\/strong>, had said: \u201cWe don\u2019t want to encourage any more sub-concession arrangements, because we want to ensure stability in our gaming concession system\u2026they\u2026 should not expand endlessly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s current casino licences are\u00a0<strong>due to expire in June 2022<\/strong>. However, the city\u2019s gaming laws state that<strong>\u00a0licences can be extended for up to five years<\/strong>\u00a0from the original 20-year term.\u00a0Now\u00a0<strong>there will be 180 days to write the final report<\/strong>, after which a draft will be submitted to the Legislative Assembly for additional conversation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Junkets request details on Macau\u2019s proposed new gaming laws<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kwok Chi Chung, president of the Macau Association of Gaming and Entertainment Promoters, has asked the government for more clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kwok said he has doubts about the proposals regarding the VIP junket segment and said&nbsp;<strong>junkets need clarity on what constitutes an illegal deposit<\/strong>. According to the proposal, people convicted of making illegal deposits will face up to five years in prison.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September,&nbsp;<strong>Ben Lee, managing partner of iGamiX Management &amp; Consulting<\/strong>, said&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/increased-supervision-over-macau-casinos-could-hurt-premium-mass-market\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau could lose 80 per cent of its premium mass business<\/a>&nbsp;due to the proposed changes.
