However, some critics have said the bill lacks gambling harm measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.-\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/tasmanian-parliament-to-discuss-new-gambling-bill-this-week\">Tasmania&#8217;s Gaming Control Amendment<\/a>\u00a0has passed the House of Assembly after gaining support from the Liberal government and Labor opposition. The bill is expected to come into effect on July 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amendments to the Tasmanian gambling bill<\/strong>\u00a0include the introduction of\u00a0<strong>individual operating licences for electronic gaming machines<\/strong>\u00a0hosted in brick-and-mortar venues and new tax rates on gaming revenue in the state. It would also end\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/federal-group-protests-tasmania-licence-changes\">Federal Group casino\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0exclusive licence agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some critics have argued that<strong>\u00a0the bill doesn&#8217;t contemplate gambling-harm minimisation measures<\/strong>, something that Premier Peter Gutwein denied. He said the bill has some of the strongest mesures in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state government has said the<strong> Tasmanian Alcohol and Gaming Commission will investigate the use of facial recognition technology\u00a0<\/strong>to identify self-excluded gamblers.\u00a0It will also explore smart card systems that allow gamblers to limit their losses in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Tasmania\u2019s highest social service agency,\u00a0<strong>TasCOSS, said these were band-aid solutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Adrienne Picone, TasCOSS CEO,&nbsp;<\/strong>said: &#8220;We know that self-exclusion or voluntary measures, such as facial recognition technology and card-based play, have minimal impact compared to universal and mandatory measures such as a $1 bet limit, slower spin speeds and stopping losses-disguised-as-wins.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Andrew Wilkie MP<\/strong> has suggested implementing a maximum bet limit of AU$1, dialling back machines\u2019 spinning time and introducing stricter punishments for clubs and bars that don\u2019t follow guidelines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Proposed amendments to the Tasmanian gambling bill have the support of the Liberal government and Labor opposition.
