Police have arrested 20 Thai workers for illegally crossing the border to work at an online casino in Preah Sihanouk province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Cambodia.- Authorities in Cambodia have arrested\u00a020 illegal Thai workers who crossed the border<\/strong>\u00a0to work at an online casino. The newspaper Khmer Times was told\u00a0three Chinese and a Thai man were also arrested\u00a0<\/strong>for running the illegal gambling website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Department of Immigration representative General Keo Vannthan said the department was helping the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh to send back the 20 Thai workers.\u00a0Police officers are looking to capture a Cambodian intermediary<\/strong>\u00a0who carried the Thais into the nation unlawfully.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to authorities, those arrested were sent for Covid-19 tests and five of them came back positive. Those arrested are reported to have posted on Facebook they had been detained by the online casino owner<\/strong>\u00a0and that the police had rescued them. The Preah Sihanouk police chief said this was not true.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China and Cambodia renew the agreement on cross border crime<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

China and Cambodia<\/a>\u00a0have renewed their existing cooperation agreement on cross border gambling.\u00a0China\u2019s Minister of Public Security and Cambodia\u2019s Minister of Interior<\/strong>\u00a0have agreed to continue tackling cross-border crimes,\u00a0including illegal online gambling<\/strong>. When the first agreement was signed, in March 2019, Cambodia banned online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cambodia\u2019s minister of interior said: \u201cBoth sides have agreed to continue\u00a0promoting law enforcement cooperation to prevent transnational crimes of all kinds<\/strong>, especially organised crimes, online gambling, online money extortion and drug trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September, Cambodian officers<\/a> arrested 15 Chinese citizens during a raid during<\/strong> a venue in Preah Sihanouk over allegations of cryptocurrency dealing, illegal gambling and other related crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers said the arrests were made for illegal gambling activities, cryptocurrency gambling and scamming<\/strong>, phishing and cross-territory trafficking of people, among other crimes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
