From October 19, travellers from Macau who want to enter Zhuhai will only have to show a negative Covid-19 test and will no longer be required to quarantine on arrival.

Macau.- Authorities in Zhuhai have eased restrictions for people who have travelled from Macau and will no longer require a 14-day quarantine. Ho Iat Seng, Macau’s chief executive, also said people who plan to travel outside Macau would no longer need to present a negative Covid-19 test issued within 24 hours of departure.

During the first week of October, authorities had announced that the mandatory 14-day quarantine for visitors from Macau was going to be kept in place due to new Covid-19 cases in Macau in the past week.

People in Macau that have had “close contact” with Covid-19 positive cases are banned from entering Zhuhai until they have hung tight for seven days in the wake of finishing a quarantine cycle inside Macau. People living in Macau’s alleged “red” and “yellow” zones are also prohibited from entering Zhuhai until seven days have passed after the lifting of the alert from their zone.

IMF forecasts GDP growth of 20.4% for 2021

The International Monetary Fund has adjusted downwards its forecast for Macau. It now predicts the city’s GDP growth for 2021 will be 20.4 per cent. The fund also predicted a consumer price deflation rate of -0.3 per cent.

In April, the IMF had predicted that Macau’s economy would rebound by 61 per cent this year. However, the city’s economy is heavily dependent on gaming revenue, which has been slow to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic due to ongoing restrictions on travel.
