And what will evolve from the China-U.S. trade war remains to be seen,\u201d she told the media.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau&nbsp;received more than 39.4 million tourists in 2019, a nearly&nbsp;10-percent rise&nbsp;on the 35.8-million visitor arrivals recorded in 2018, according to official data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also noted that her office saw \u201cno sign of recovery\u201d in the short term regarding the number of\u00a0mainland Chinese visitors coming to city via neighbouring Hong Kong by means of Hong Kong-Macau joint tour groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such trade has been hit by the months-long protests in Hong Kong, noted a recent report on the Macau gaming market\u2019s&nbsp;prospects in 2020&nbsp;from brokerage Jefferies Group LLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the city\u2019s Statistics and Census Service has yet to release Macau\u2019s December visitor arrivals, the MGTO warned that the 12th month of 2019 would register a year-on-year \u201cdouble-digit\u201d decline. <br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tourism Office director says visitor numbers are likely to drop 3 percent year on year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":2357,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's tourism authority forecasts a 3% year-on-year decline in visitor arrivals for 2020, marking the first expected downturn in several years.
