{"id":23483,"date":"2021-10-13T11:36:04","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T14:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=23483"},"modified":"2026-04-23T14:50:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T17:50:07","slug":"macau-cancels-third-gaming-law-consultation-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-cancels-third-gaming-law-consultation-session","title":{"rendered":"Macau cancels third gaming law consultation session"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The third scheduled meeting for the public consultation on gaming law amendments has been cancelled due to a typhoon alert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.-&nbsp;<strong>Macau\u2019s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ)&nbsp;<\/strong>has reported that the third scheduled meeting for the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-consultation-on-gaming-law-to-open-on-september-15\">public consultation on gaming laws<\/a>&nbsp;has been cancelled due to safety reasons after authorities have raised the city&#8217;s warning signal to No. 8 due to Typhoon Kompasu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s the third public consultation session to be cancelled.&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-cancels-gaming-law-consultation-session-due-to-covid-19-cases\">The first session scheduled for September 27<\/a>&nbsp;and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-law-consultation-session-cancelled-again\">the second<\/a> scheduled for October 9 were cancelled due to Covid-19 cases in Macau.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macaus-gaming-law-consultation-sessions-to-continue-as-scheduled\">Lei Wai Nong<\/a>, secretary for economy and finance, has said that&nbsp;<strong>the schedule for the consultation would continue for the planned 45 days<\/strong>. It is unknown if the sessions will be rescheduled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the gaming law revision is finished,&nbsp;<strong>there will be 180 days to write the final report<\/strong>, after which a draft will be submitted to the Legislative Assembly for additional conversation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local media reports,<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-likely-to-end-sub-concessions-system-for-casino-operators\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">authorities in Macau want to end the current sub-concession system<\/a>&nbsp;that led to the creation of three additional Macau casino licences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government also wants<strong>&nbsp;to increase the oversight of gaming concessionaires and junket operations<\/strong>, but it will maintain at least six gaming concessions.&nbsp;<strong>Representatives from Macau\u2019s casino operators<\/strong>&nbsp;have attended&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/casino-operators-request-more-info-on-macau-gaming-law-changes\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a public consultation session with authorities<\/a>&nbsp;and asked for more information on the government\u2019s proposed changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Macau GGR for October likely to be down 80%, analysts say<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts at<strong>&nbsp;Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd<\/strong>&nbsp;expect&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-for-october-likely-to-be-down-80-analysts-say\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau\u2019s gross gaming revenue for October<\/a>&nbsp;will be down 80 per cent when compared to 2019 levels, previous to the Covid-19 pandemic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They forecast that<strong>&nbsp;GGR for 2021 as a whole will be down 69 per cent from pre-pandemic levels&nbsp;<\/strong>but up 51 per cent when compared to 2020 figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decrease was mainly attributed to&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-october-golden-week-at-risk-amid-local-covid-19-cases\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new local cases of Covid-19<\/a>&nbsp;in the city, which had a deep impact on the highly anticipated October Golden Week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data from the Public Security Police show that daily average visitors to Macau during the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-golden-week-visitors-down-93\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">holiday period<\/a>&nbsp;was&nbsp;<strong>down 93.7 per cent&nbsp;<\/strong>compared with last year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The third scheduled meeting for the public consultation on gaming law amendments has been cancelled due to a typhoon alert.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":17067,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has faced multiple cancellations for its gaming law amendment public consultation due to both Typhoon Kompasu and COVID-19, yet the 45-day consultation period remains.
