According to the regulator, the two POGOs <strong>failed to cooperate with its compliance checking<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through a statement, the AMLC said: &#8220;Failure or refusal to cooperate would mean non-compliance and<strong>&nbsp;will be subject to such penalties and sanctions<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator said: &#8220;Supervising Authorities are further informed that<strong>\u00a0the AMLC resolved to revoke the registration of those covered persons\u00a0<\/strong>who failed or refused to cooperate with the AMLC.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pogos-must-register-for-anti-money-laundering-reporting\">POGOs<\/a>\u00a0were ordered to register for the electronic reporting system\u00a0<strong>managed by the AMLC.<\/strong> The decision\u00a0<strong>followed an amendment to the Philippines\u2019 Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2001<\/strong>\u00a0that includes real estate developers and brokers, and offshore gaming operators under the Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-president-signs-anti-money-laundering-law\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new regulation<\/a>&nbsp;reads: \u201c<strong>These persons and entities are required to report covered and suspicious transactions<\/strong>&nbsp;to the AMLC within the period prescribed and for the threshold amount fixed by the law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Failure to register would mean \u201ca failure to electronically file covered and suspicious transaction reports with the AMLC, which is a&nbsp;<strong>money laundering offence<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who violate the new rule could face&nbsp;<strong>a maximum penalty of PHP5m (US$102,659)<\/strong>&nbsp;if they have assets worth PHP50bn (US$1bn) or more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two POGOs failed to cooperate with the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) in the conduct of its compliance checking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":12162,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) in the Philippines has revoked the registrations of two Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), MG Universal Link Limited and Inner Strong Limited.
