Bernstein Ltd<\/strong> expect Macau&#8217;s gross gaming revenue for October will be down 80 per cent when compared to 2019 levels, previous to the Covid-19 pandemic. They forecast that<strong>\u00a0GGR for 2021 as a whole will be down 69 per cent from pre-pandemic levels\u00a0<\/strong>but up 51 per cent when compared to 2020 figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decrease was mainly attributed to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-october-golden-week-at-risk-amid-local-covid-19-cases\">new local cases of Covid-19<\/a>\u00a0in the city, which had a deep impact on the highly anticipated October Golden Week. Data from the Public Security Police show that daily average visitors to Macau during the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-golden-week-visitors-down-93\">holiday period<\/a>\u00a0was\u00a0<strong>down 93.7 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>compared with last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zhuhai has deemed Macau to be a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-classified-as-medium-to-high-risk-area-by-zhuhai\">medium-to-high risk area<\/a>\u00a0for Covid-19 and authorities\u00a0have <strong>tightened restrictions\u00a0<\/strong>for people who have travelled from Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About\u00a0<strong>a possible recovery in the short term<\/strong>, analysts said: &#8220;We expect GGR improvement in November\/December, but do not expect opening up of Hong Kong or easing of China visas until next spring and summer.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Macau gaming operators expected to report EDITBA loss in Q3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-operators-expected-to-report-editba-loss-in-q3\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Analysts at Morgan Stanley<\/a>&nbsp;expect the six gaming operators in Macau to report a total of&nbsp;<strong>US$23m<\/strong>&nbsp;in negative industry corporate earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the third quarter of 2021 due to Covid-19 cases in Macau in August and September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers would represent a&nbsp;<strong>108 per cent drop from the previous quarter&nbsp;<\/strong>but only 1 per cent decrease from the same three months period of last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Due to new Covid-19 cases in Macau, analysts expect revenue will be down 80 per cent when compared to pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":22524,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) is projected to be down 80% in October and 69% for full-year 2021 compared to pre-pandemic levels, primarily due to new COVID-19 cases and tightened travel restrictions impacting Golden Week.
