Those cities and prefectures interested in developing an Integrated Resort will have until April 28 2022 to submit their final project proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/japans-ir-implementation-act-to-take-effect-on-july-19\">Authorities will allow three licences<\/a>, and there are currently only\u00a0<strong>three cities expected to bid for them:\u00a0<\/strong>Nagasaki, Osaka and Wakayama. All three could be chosen; however, it is possible that the public authority picks only on or two, or even none. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Takeharu Yamanaka, Yokohama\u2019s newly mayor, has cancelled the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/yokohama-ir-plans-to-be-cancelled-from-october-1\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">city\u2019s IR plans.<\/a>&nbsp;Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment and&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/yokohama-sega-sammy-and-genting-partner-for-ir-bid\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Genting Singapore<\/a>&nbsp;were the two remaining candidates to be Yokohama\u2019s partner for its bid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, analysts suggested that Yokohama\u2019s possible withdrawal from the IR contest could leave the door open for Tokyo to bid for an&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/could-tokyo-replace-yokohama-in-japans-ir-project\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">integrated resort licence<\/a>. However, a survey by a local newspaper found that&nbsp;<strong>66 per cent in Tokyo are against an IR development<\/strong>&nbsp;and only 24 per cent are in favour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The criteria established by the national government last December states that applications will be judged based on a points scale of up to 1,000 and under five key criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The commitment of the IR to the Japanese travel industry (up to 450 points).<\/li><li>The capacity to run a safe business (200 points).<\/li><li>The national economic and social effects (150 points).<\/li><li>Programmes to address gambling-related harm (150 points).<\/li><li>The use of casino revenue for the public good (50 points).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Japan\u2019s next prime minister in favour of IR developments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The election of&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/japans-next-prime-minister-in-favour-of-ir-developments\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fumio Kishida<\/a>&nbsp;as&nbsp;<strong>the next prime minister of Japan has been well received by the gaming industry<\/strong>&nbsp;as he has expressed his support for the development of integrated resorts in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kishida has previously served as foreign minister, and during his tenure, he visited Singapore\u2019s two integrated resorts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities in Japan have officially announced that host cities and prefectures have until April 2022 to forward their final integrated resort proposals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":18778,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Japan has officially opened the application window for up to three integrated resort licenses, with interested cities and prefectures having until April 28, 2022, to submit proposals.
