{"id":23081,"date":"2021-09-29T11:38:19","date_gmt":"2021-09-29T14:38:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=23081"},"modified":"2026-04-23T15:15:04","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T18:15:04","slug":"resorts-world-genting-postpones-reopening-until-further-notice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/resorts-world-genting-postpones-reopening-until-further-notice","title":{"rendered":"Resorts World Genting postpones reopening until further notice"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reopening of Genting Malaysia\u2019s Resorts World Genting has been suspended until further notice as authorities aim for a 90 per cent vaccination rate against Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malaysia.- The highly expected&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/resorts-world-genting-to-reopen-from-october-1\">reopening of Resorts World Genting<\/a>&nbsp;has been delayed again as the government announces that domestic travel will only be allowed once the vaccination rate has reached 90 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The casino operator had&nbsp;<strong>closed all of its services&nbsp;<\/strong>in June after the Malaysian Prime Minister announced a nationwide<strong>&nbsp;Covid-19 lockdown.<\/strong>&nbsp;Until then, the resort\u2019s hotels, food and beverage outlets, shopping malls, retail outlets and other facilities remained open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/genting-malaysia-posts-us82-8m-loss-for-q2\">Genting Malaysia<\/a>&nbsp;reported gaming revenue for the first half of MYR1.14bn, down 23.3 per cent year-on-year due to the closure of its venue. The leisure and hospitality business saw revenue rise by MYR155.7m when compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the second quarter was positive by MYR45.6m.&nbsp;In the second quarter of 2020, the company recorded an adjusted EBITDA loss of MYR486.2m.
