The company&#8217;s proposal was analysed by a committee established by local authorities, who decided the company was qualified to develop the integrated resort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MGM-Orix<\/strong>\u00a0has proposed to invest\u00a0<strong>JPY1tn (US$9.1bn)<\/strong>. Osaka Prefecture is expected to submit its\u00a0<strong>IR development plan to the national government in April 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/osaka-confirms-contenders-to-join-ir-bid\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The other companies<\/a>&nbsp;originally involved in Osaka\u2019s request-for-proposal (RFP) process \u2013 Galaxy Entertainment Group, Genting Singapore, Melco Resorts, Sega Sammy Holdings and Shotoku Corp \u2013 all withdrew from the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The target opening date for the IR has been pushed back to sometime between 2028 and 2030. The Osaka government had asked&nbsp;<strong>potential contenders to assume the costs of extending the Osaka Metro<\/strong>&nbsp;line to the site, but authorities were afraid that as the only bidder&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/osaka-worried-about-future-of-ir-development\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MGM-Orix<\/a>&nbsp;could renegotiate conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Osaka also wanted its operators to add more MICE facilities&nbsp;<\/strong>beyond the requirements of national legislation but, according to&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/japan-irs-only-two-likely-to-be-built-bill-hornbuckle-says\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bill Hornbuckle<\/a>, MGM president and CEO, the company\u2019s IR<strong>&nbsp;may have less MICE space<\/strong>&nbsp;and fewer hotel rooms than expected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Osaka Prefecture has selected MGM-Orix as its partner for its IR bid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":20442,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Osaka Prefecture has formally selected the MGM-Orix consortium as its Integrated Resort (IR) development partner, with a proposed JPY1tn investment.
