Macau.-\u00a0Police in Macau have arrested an employee of a VIP casino venue <\/strong>on suspicion of stealing nearly MOP95.5m (US$11.9m) from more than 70 customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to officers, the woman promised to give customers a 1.1 per cent daily interest rate on the funds. However, two of her victims complained that they were unable to withdraw their deposits<\/strong> worth MOP9m. The woman claims that a managing partner in the VIP room instructed her to transfer the deposits to another account.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her case has been sent to the city\u2019s public prosecution office for follow-up. Authorities are still seeking to determine the whereabouts of other suspects in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Under the\u00a0revision of the city\u2019s gaming law<\/a>, Macau wants\u00a0to increase the oversight of gaming concessionaires and junket operations.<\/strong> Macau\u2019s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau beings a\u00a0public consultation<\/a>\u00a0on the revision of the city\u2019s gaming law, which will run until October 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lei Wai Nong, Macau\u2019s Secretary for Economy and Finance<\/strong>, said: \u201cWe don\u2019t want to encourage any more sub-concession arrangements, because we want to ensure stability in our gaming concession system\u2026they\u2026 should not expand endlessly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He also revealed the government might invite the public to give its view on the maximum number of gaming concessions<\/strong> that ought to be permitted in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Authorities have also proposed electing \u201cdelegates\u201d to Macau\u2019s gaming concessions<\/strong>, so it can have a \u201cgreater checking\u201d limit on the activity of the gaming firms.
