{"id":22649,"date":"2021-09-15T12:22:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T15:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=22649"},"modified":"2026-04-23T15:39:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T18:39:43","slug":"ccc-warns-it-will-close-by-end-of-april-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ccc-warns-it-will-close-by-end-of-april-2022","title":{"rendered":"CCC warns it will close by end of April 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A day after asking the government for a US$1m, the Commonwealth Casino Commission warns it will have to cease operations by April 2022 if it doesn&#8217;t get funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Mariana Islands.-\u00a0<strong>Andrew Yeom<\/strong>, the CCC\u2019s executive director, has said that if the government doesn&#8217;t approve the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ccc-calls-for-more-funds-to-continue-running\">allocation of the available US$1m in casino licence fees<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>collected from IPI in 2019, the regulator will have to shut down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yeom said: &#8220;The casino commission cannot continue to operate at its current funding level.\u00a0If additional funding is not made available to the commission soon, it will be forced to close its operations by the end of April 2022.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Marianas Variety, both Yeom and commission chairman\u00a0<strong>Edward C. Deleon Guerrero\u00a0<\/strong>have said the CCC could receive additional funding through resolutions and\/or settlements of ongoing litigations but that government&#8217;s assistance was very much needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, the regulator announced\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ccc-to-cut-staff-due-to-imperial-pacifics-closure\">20 layoffs without cause<\/a>\u00a0to reduce operation costs.\u00a0<strong>Yeom\u00a0<\/strong>said this represented\u00a0<strong>a 60 per cent workforce reduction<\/strong>\u00a0for CCC as some staff had already voluntarily resigned.
