Dotts could sue the casino operator for failing to pay him for legal services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Mariana Islands.- The problems continue for Imperial Pacific International, which <strong>could face another lawsuit<\/strong>, this time from its former lawyer,\u00a0<strong>Michael W. Dotts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Saipan Tribune,\u00a0<strong>the former IPI attorney said the company has yet to pay him his fees<\/strong>, which total US$140,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dotts said: \u201cI do not believe IPI is going to pay. I believe I now need to file suit and join IPI\u2019s other creditors. With each missed payment, I contacted IPI management and advised that if the payments went unpaid, I would suspend work and move to withdraw as counsel.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The attorney advised Ray Yumul, IPI CEO<\/strong>, that if the company didn&#8217;t make a substantial payment toward what is owed, he would move to pull out as counsel in all leftover matters where he is addressing IPI.\u00a0Yumul said that he was searching for a substitute but the company hasn&#8217;t announced a substitute counsel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NMI Chief Judge Ramona Manglona<\/strong>\u00a0has allowed Dotts&#8217; solicitation to pull out from representing IPI in the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/imperial-pacific-casino-staff\">complaint filed by the US Department of Labor<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manglona said: &#8220;Dotts has fulfilled his obligation under this court\u2019s local rules and has provided the proper notice to IPI.\u00a0<strong>The court also finds that granting the motion would not prejudice other parties<\/strong>, cause harm to the administration of justice, delay resolution of the case, or prejudice other litigants.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manglona said IPI does not need to submit weekly reports to the court but should submit them to the USDOL secretary.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added: \u201cIPI has been remitting payment to the U.S. Department of Labor and working directly with the department to ensure IPI complies with the terms set out in this case.\u00a0As there are no significant pending matters before the court in this case, good cause has been established.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April, IPI\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/imperial-pacific-faces-indefinite-gaming-licence-suspension\">gaming licence was suspended<\/a>\u00a0indefinitely as the operator failed to comply with regulatory orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commonwealth Casino Commission board has ordered&nbsp;<strong>IPI to pay a penalty of US$6.6m<\/strong>, an annual casino exclusive licence fee of US$15.5m and&nbsp;<strong>annual casino regulatory fees of US$3.1m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It says IPI\u00a0<strong>violated five orders\u00a0<\/strong>including a failure to pay\u00a0<strong>its US$3.1m annual regulatory fee\u00a0<\/strong>in 2020 and failure to<strong>\u00a0comply with an order to settle debts<\/strong>\u00a0with vendors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former IPI attorney Michael W.
