Authorities have announced Manila will come under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from September 8. It’s still unknown if casinos will reopen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Philippines.- Authorities in the Philippines have announced the capital city of Manila will\u00a0ease Covid-19 countermeasures\u00a0<\/strong>from September 8. The city will move from modified enhanced community quarantine<\/a>\u00a0(MECQ) to the more relaxed General Community Quarantine (GCQ), allowing more sectors to reopen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harry Roque<\/strong>, the presidential spokesperson, said GCQ will be implemented in Metro Manila\u00a0<\/strong>because of its high immunisation rate compared with the rest of the country. Almost 45 per cent of Metro Manila inhabitants have now been vaccinated against Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roque said \u201cgranular\u201d lockdowns<\/strong>, specifically targeting areas of outbreaks rather than putting the entire province under restrictions would help the economy recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under MECQ,\u00a0casinos in the Entertainment City zone<\/a>\u00a0remained closed.\u00a0There have been no announcements<\/strong>\u00a0yet on a possible reopening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGCOR revenue to return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2022<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Andrea Domingo<\/strong>, PAGCOR chairman, has said the casino industry in the Philippines could return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of next year if the country achieves herd immunity and borders restrictions are lifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also predicted PAGCOR\u2019s revenues could reach between PHP35bn (US$701.6m) <\/strong>to PHP38bn in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Philippine Star, Domingo said: \u201cI think we should be able to start recovering by September, but I do not know how fast because the world economy is really down.
