Wynn Macau has said it expects its concession will be renewed or extended beyond June 26, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Macau.- While there’s been no official news,\u00a0Wynn Macau says it’s confident that authorities will eventually extend its gaming licence<\/strong> beyond the current expiration date of June 26, 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With Macau\u2019s legislative elections will be held on September 12<\/strong>, and relevant\u00a0public consultation<\/a>\u00a0and legal amendments to the gaming law still yet to come, it appears there will be no time to prepare for a re-tendering in time for when licences expire next year. As a result, operators believe extensions are the only option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lawrence Ho<\/strong>, Melco\u2019s chairman and CEO, has also said he expects licences to be renewed, while\u00a0Sands China CEO<\/a>\u00a0Wilfred Wong Ying Wai<\/strong>, has said it \u201cis the only alternative at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n In July,\u00a0Macau\u2019s secretary for economy and finance<\/a>\u00a0said a public consultation on gaming law will be held in the second half of this year \u2013 a committee of legislators has urged the government to\u00a0announce an exact date<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cto avoid causing constant doubts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n In August, a subcommittee of the\u00a0Macau Legislative Assembly<\/strong>\u00a0issued a report with\u00a0recommendations for the government<\/a>, suggesting authorities should give more information about\u00a0changes to the licence criteria\u00a0<\/strong>and the extension of current gaming concessions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Members also suggested authorities should not\u00a0rush to renew licences<\/strong>, arguing that this might result in\u00a0\u201clower-quality\u201d bids\u00a0<\/strong>for the city\u2019s gaming rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\nChanges to licence criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
