The regulator <strong>is now warning players to gamble responsibly\u00a0<\/strong>to avoid gambling-related harms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E-sabong grew in popularity after <strong>cockpits were closed to spectators\u00a0<\/strong>at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. In May, PAGCOR announced the first two licensed e-sabong operators had started to operate. In June, it approved\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/the-philippines-approves-two-more-e-sabong-operators\">two more applications<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator also\u00a0<strong>warned the public not to participate in cockfighting betting offered by illegal operators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said: &#8220;Sabong being closely intertwined with our culture is presently gaining popularity as an online gaming activity among Filipino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Gaming responsibly is when a player only bets with money that he or she can afford to lose<\/strong>, making sure that money allocated for daily sustenance and for the family is not used.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines\u2019<strong>\u00a0cockfighting industry is believed to be worth just over US$1bn per year<\/strong>. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippine-e-sabong-operators-pay-pagcor-us19-9m-in-4-months\">PAGCOR<\/a>\u00a0has collected PHP1bn (US$19.9m) in fees since licenced e-sabong (online cockfighting) operators started to operate in the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PAGCOR&nbsp;<strong>chairman Andrea Domingo&nbsp;<\/strong>said the maximum number of e-sabong licences would be 12.
