{"id":22250,"date":"2021-09-02T12:29:28","date_gmt":"2021-09-02T15:29:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=22250"},"modified":"2026-04-23T16:03:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:03:48","slug":"hj-jockey-club-posts-record-betting-turnover-for-2020-21-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hj-jockey-club-posts-record-betting-turnover-for-2020-21-season","title":{"rendered":"HK Jockey Club posts record betting turnover for 2020\/21 season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Hong Kong Jockey Club has reported turnover of HK$279.7bn (US$35.9bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Hong Kong.-&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/record-betting-turnover-for-hong-kong-racing\">The Hong Kong Jockey Club<\/a>&nbsp;(HKJC) has posted<strong>&nbsp;turnover of HK$279.7bn (US$35.9bn)<\/strong>&nbsp;in its financial results for the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of that came from&nbsp;<strong>racing betting<\/strong>, which brought in HK$136.1bn, up 12.5 per cent year-on-year. <strong>Football betting turnover was up 54 per cent to HK$140.2bn&nbsp;<\/strong>and football betting duty was up 47.4 per cent to HK$9.25bn thanks to the resumption of major leagues, Euro 2020 and Copa America 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Mark Six lottery resumed in May 2021&nbsp;<\/strong>leading to a turnover of HK$3.4bn, down 34.3 per cent when compared to the previous financial year. Revenue from the<strong> World Pool<\/strong>, which launched for Royal Ascot in 2019, was up 88.1 per cent, contributing 17 per cent of club turnover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HKJC said: &#8220;Through World Pools<strong>&nbsp;the Club is now expanding the concept<\/strong>, with Hong Kong fast emerging as a global hub for commingling on the world\u2019s premier race meetings.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hk-jockey-club-annual-revenue-down-11-6-per-cent\">The club<\/a>&nbsp;had posted an 11.6 per cent drop in revenue in its financial results for the 2019\/2020 fiscal year. Total revenue amounted to HK$218.7bn (US$28.2bn).
