PAGCOR\u00a0chairman Andrea Domingo\u00a0<\/strong>has said licensed e-sabong revenue could exceed that of offshore gaming operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n The Philippines.-\u00a0The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) chairman Andrea Domingo\u00a0<\/strong>has predicted that licensed e-sabong operators in the Philippines could generate revenue of between PHP3bn to PHP3.5bn this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In May, PAGCOR announced that\u00a0two licensed e-sabong<\/a>\u00a0(online cockfighting) operators had started to operate. In June, it approved\u00a0two more applications<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Domingo said the maximum number of e-sabong licences would be 12. She said there were currently 12 applications pending,\u00a0but that only 8 new entrants will be allowed<\/strong>\u00a0to enter the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Online betting on cockfights\u00a0<\/strong>has rocketed in the Philippines since\u00a0cockpits were closed to spectators\u00a0<\/strong>at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Philippines\u2019\u00a0cockfighting industry is believed to be worth just over US$1bn per year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Philippines government is seeking to eradicate illegal gambling and make up for lost revenue from its land-based casinos and online gaming companies, which have been hit hard by countermeasures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\nPAGCOR gaming revenue down 20% in the first half of the year 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
