A raid was carried out on a commercial unit in Bukit Batok Crescent, where <strong>11 women and 10 men were said to be gambling.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officers said those arrested included a couple who were using the unit as an\u00a0<strong>illegal gambling venue<\/strong>. The other people were arrested for gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the raid,<strong>\u00a0police seized equipment. <\/strong>Those arrested are also accused of breaching Covid-19 measures ordered by the government. They could be fined up to $10,000 or sentenced to up to six months in prison.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Common Gaming Company Act,\u00a0<strong>those who use a public place for gambling face a fine of up to $50,000<\/strong>\u00a0and up to three years in prison.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to The Straits Time, police said: &#8220;The public is advised not to participate in any form of illegal gambling and to observe the current safety distance measures.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first week of August,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-leader-of-online-gambling-syndicate-jailed\">Lim Beng Tiong<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was sentenced to five years and five months in prison for leading an\u00a0<strong>illegal lottery-betting outfit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beng Tiong was originally arrested in a raid in 2016 with 48 others. Officers found that&nbsp;<strong>Lim Beng Tiong\u2019s syndicate controlled online gambling sites&nbsp;<\/strong>that offered options for betting on lotteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<strong>&nbsp;syndicate collected up to SGD4.32m in illegal bets between January 2013 and November 2016<\/strong>. In the last month of operations, before the arrests, it recorded SGD2m (US$1.49m) in bets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Casinos allowed to resume standing bets at table games<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-standing-bets-allowed-at-table-games\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The government of Singapore<\/a>&nbsp;has allowed casinos to resume taking standing bets at table games.&nbsp;<strong>Resorts World Sentosa<\/strong>&nbsp;and<strong>&nbsp;Marina Bay Sands<\/strong>&nbsp;have also been allowed to<strong>&nbsp;increase guest capacity from 25 per cent to 50 per cent<\/strong>&nbsp;of pre-pandemic levels at non-gaming attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Singapore Tourism Board (STB)<\/strong>&nbsp;said standing bets remain subject to safe management measures such as a 1-metre safe distance between individuals and a maximum of five people including seated and standing players, and the dealer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Casino&nbsp;<strong>operators will have to follow \u201cSG Clean\u201d requirements<\/strong>&nbsp;for good personal and environmental hygiene habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/new-covid-19-cases-detected-at-marina-bay-sands\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marina Bay Sands<\/a>&nbsp;recently detected<strong>&nbsp;new Covid-19 cases associated with a cluster of infections<\/strong>&nbsp;at the casino venue.
