Those arrested are<strong>\u00a0accused of laundering HK$170m (US$21.8m). <\/strong>According to officers,\u00a0<strong>some of the money was laundered through casinos in Macau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities stated investigations started in May and\u00a0<strong>several raids were carried out in recent weeks<\/strong>. The five men arrested are aged between 40 and 43. They are accused of \u201c<strong>contravening the Cross-boundary Movement<\/strong>\u00a0of Physical Currency and Bearer Negotiable Instruments Ordinance.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the raids,&nbsp;<strong>police seized HK$300,000<\/strong>&nbsp;and froze HK$580,000 in bank accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Policeman sentenced for running an illegal poker house<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ng Hin-fung<\/strong>,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hong-kong-policeman-sentenced-for-running-illegal-gambling-den\">a Hong Kong policeman<\/a>, has been sentenced to up to two years and six months in prison after\u00a0<strong>officers found he was involved in running an illegal gambling den<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to South China Morning Post, Ng Hin-fung, together with the other two people, has also been sentenced for breach of restrictions regarding group gatherings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ng Hin-fung was arrested during&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hong-kong-65-arrested-in-raid-on-illegal-gambling-den\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a raid in April<\/a>&nbsp;in which officers arrested&nbsp;<strong>65 people aged between 18 and 54<\/strong>. The officer was<strong>&nbsp;suspended from duty<\/strong>. He has been released on bail for HK$10,000 (US$1,280) until the next hearing on October 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court heard that&nbsp;<strong>the illegal casino operated in a 1,600 square foot industrial unit&nbsp;<\/strong>and offered poker games from March 27 to April 8.
