Five people have been arrested for alleged cross border operations between Hong Kong and Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong.- Police claim to have busted a\u00a0cross-border money-laundering operation<\/strong>\u00a0through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Those arrested are\u00a0accused of laundering HK$170m (US$21.8m). <\/strong>According to officers,\u00a0some of the money was laundered through casinos in Macau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities stated investigations started in May and\u00a0several raids were carried out in recent weeks<\/strong>. The five men arrested are aged between 40 and 43. They are accused of \u201ccontravening the Cross-boundary Movement<\/strong>\u00a0of Physical Currency and Bearer Negotiable Instruments Ordinance.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the raids, police seized HK$300,000<\/strong> and froze HK$580,000 in bank accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Policeman sentenced for running an illegal poker house<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ng Hin-fung<\/strong>,\u00a0a Hong Kong policeman<\/a>, has been sentenced to up to two years and six months in prison after\u00a0officers found he was involved in running an illegal gambling den<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to South China Morning Post, Ng Hin-fung, together with the other two people, has also been sentenced for breach of restrictions regarding group gatherings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ng Hin-fung was arrested during a raid in April<\/a> in which officers arrested 65 people aged between 18 and 54<\/strong>. The officer was suspended from duty<\/strong>. He has been released on bail for HK$10,000 (US$1,280) until the next hearing on October 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court heard that the illegal casino operated in a 1,600 square foot industrial unit <\/strong>and offered poker games from March 27 to April 8. Some 39 were charged with illegal gambling<\/strong>, while an insurance agent faced charges of preventing police from entering the gambling establishment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to current gambling laws, operating a gambling establishment is punishable by two years in prison<\/strong> and a HK$5m fine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
