{"id":21793,"date":"2021-08-20T13:40:29","date_gmt":"2021-08-20T16:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=21793"},"modified":"2026-04-23T16:26:51","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:26:51","slug":"philippines-ggr-down-27-for-q2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-ggr-down-27-for-q2","title":{"rendered":"Philippines GGR down 27% for Q2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Philippines\u2019s GGR was down 27 per cent quarter-on-quarter, mainly due to the temporary closure of casino venues in Metro Manila.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) has reported that gaming revenue\u00a0<strong>fell by 27 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>to PHP18.80bn (US$373.0m)<strong>\u00a0in the second quarter of 2021<\/strong>, down from PHP25.74bn in the first quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <strong>GGR was up 690 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>when compared to the previous year when the Covid-19 pandemic haltered the gaming industry and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-gaming-casino-operations-manila\">the majority of the casino venues were closed<\/a>. The second-quarter decline is also related to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/metro-manila-extends-covid-19-restrictions-by-one-week\">the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ)<\/a>, announced by the government in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Manila&#8217;s casinos generated 78 per cent of the GGR<\/strong>\u00a0for the second quarter, with a total of PHP14.67bn. However, the number fell by 30.5 per cent from the previous quarter when casino venues generated almost PHP21.12bn.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Casinos located in the Clark Freeport Zone<\/strong> reached PHP2.24bn in GGR, up 19.1 per cent when compared to the PHP1.88bn registered for the first quarter. <strong>Thunderbird Resorts and Casinos gaming properties<\/strong> experienced a 67.9 per cent decline quarter-on-quarter to PHP86.93m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PAGCOR operated casinos reached PHP486.2m in table games GGR<\/strong>, down 35.4 per cent from the previous quarter.\u00a0Slot machines GGR <strong>dropped by 27.1 per cent from PHP1.46bn<\/strong>\u00a0to PHP1.07bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total GGR generated by PAGCOR properties in the second quarter was PHP1.80bn \u2013  9.6 per cent of all industry GGR and a decrease of 27.3 per cent from the first three months of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PAGCOR gaming income down 20 per cent for H1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In July,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-gaming-revenue-down-20-in-first-half\">PAGCOR<\/a>\u00a0revealed that\u00a0<strong>gaming income for the first half fell by 20 per cent year-on-year<\/strong>\u00a0to PHP14.7bn (US$293.1m). During the first six months, the\u00a0<strong>regulator made a profit of PHP79m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-gaming-revenue-down-51-4-in-first-quarter\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PAGCOR<\/a>&nbsp;previously reported that gaming revenue&nbsp;<strong>fell by 51.4 per cent year-on-year&nbsp;<\/strong>to PHP8.36bn (US$172.8m)<strong>&nbsp;in the first quarter of 2021<\/strong>, compared to nearly PHP17.22bn (US$339.8m) in the first quarter of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Net income<\/strong>&nbsp;reached PHP152.6m (US$3.2m),<strong>&nbsp;down 80 per cent from Php777.4m (US$15.3m)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Philippines\u2019s GGR was down 27 per cent quarter-on-quarter, mainly due to the temporary closure of casino venues in Metro Manila.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":21794,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The Philippines' GGR declined 27% quarter-on-quarter in Q2 2021 to PHP18.80bn, primarily due to temporary casino closures and the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila.
