{"id":21705,"date":"2021-08-18T13:30:16","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T16:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=21705"},"modified":"2026-04-23T16:32:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:32:34","slug":"macau-daily-tourist-arrivals-on-the-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-daily-tourist-arrivals-on-the-up","title":{"rendered":"Macau daily tourist arrivals on the up"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Macau\u2019s Public Security Police reported 16,900 inbound tourists on Tuesday, showing a recovery after the drop due to local Covid-19 cases in the first week of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The daily tally of inbound tourists reached 16,600 on Monday and <strong>16,7000\u00a0<\/strong>on Tuesday, up 85 per cent when compared to Sunday&#8217;s 9,000 arrivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Macau\u2019s Public Security Police\u00a0<\/strong>said the number of arrivals started to increase after Macau carried out\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-mass-testing-ends-with-no-new-covid-19-cases\">mass testing for Covid-19<\/a>,\u00a0in which\u00a0<strong>716,251 people were tested<\/strong>, all of them returning negative results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recovery also follows the announcement of an extension for the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-eases-border-measures-with-guangdong\">validity of negative Covid-19 tests<\/a>\u00a0for visitors from Guangdong province to 48 hours. The measure covers direct inbound and outbound land trips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)\u00a0<\/strong>in the second week of August was <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-down-37-for-second-week-of-august\">MOP78m(US$9.7m)<\/a>, down 37 per cent when compared to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-down-48-for-first-week-of-august\">MOP125m (US$15.6m) in the first week<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sanford C. Bernstein<\/strong>\u00a0Ltd said Macau\u2019s GGR had fallen due to travel restrictions intensified by mainland China due to the outbreak. The\u00a0<strong>number of visitors declined 78 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0when compared to the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s GGR for the first fifteen days of August was&nbsp;<strong>MOP1.55bn (US$193m)<\/strong>. The month-to-date average daily rate is MOP103m (US$13m), down 87 per cent when compared to August 2019 levels and down 62 per cent compared to&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-29-in-july\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">July\u2019s figures<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May remains the month with the highest GGR of the year to date<\/strong>, mainly thanks to the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-received-165500-visitors-arrivals-over-labour-day-break\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Labour Day break<\/a>, when Macau\u2019s Public Security Police reported that&nbsp;<strong>165,500 tourists came to Macau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sands China and Galaxy lead Macau GGR in Q2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-down-37-for-second-week-of-august\">Deutsche Bank<\/a>\u00a0has revealed that\u00a0<strong>Sands China and Galaxy Entertainment Group together contributed 45.3 per cent of Macau\u2019s GGR\u00a0<\/strong>in the second quarter of the year. The proportion was the same as\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/sands-china-and-galaxy-lead-macau-ggr-in-q1\">the previous quarter<\/a>, when the companies contributed\u00a0<strong>MOP23.6bn (US$2.9bn)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the second quarter, Galaxy Entertainment Group contributed 20.4 per cent of revenue (US$640m) while Sands China\u2019s contribution was US$782m, 24.9 per cent of the total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment&nbsp;<\/strong>followed with 17.9 per cent.
