{"id":21652,"date":"2021-08-17T10:42:29","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T13:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=21652"},"modified":"2026-04-23T16:35:58","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:35:58","slug":"__trashed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/__trashed","title":{"rendered":"Sands China and Galaxy continue to lead Macau GGR in Q2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sands China and Galaxy Entertainment Group together accounted for 45.3 per cent of Macau&#8217;s GGR in the second quarter of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- Financial services firm Deutsche Bank has revealed that\u00a0<strong>Sands China and Galaxy Entertainment Group together contributed 45.3 per cent of Macau&#8217;s GGR\u00a0<\/strong>in the second quarter of the year. The proportion was the same\u00a0as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/sands-china-and-galaxy-lead-macau-ggr-in-q1\">the previous quarter<\/a>,\u00a0when the companies contributed\u00a0<strong>MOP23.6bn (US$2.9bn)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the second quarter, Galaxy Entertainment Group contributed 20.4 per cent of revenue (US$640m) while Sands China&#8217;s contribution was US$782m, 24.9 per cent of the total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment\u00a0<\/strong>followed with 17.9 per cent. Wynn Macau was in fourth position with 13.7 per cent, while SHM Holdings accounted for 11.7 per cent and MGM China 11.3 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mass-market results<\/strong>\u00a0were led by Sands China at 25.1 per cent of the total US$2.3bn in slots and tables revenue, while Galaxy Entertainment accounted for 17.8 per cent. Melco was again in third position with 17.2 per cent, followed by Wynn and SJM both with 13.6 per cent, and MGM with 12.1 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for VIP results,\u00a0<strong>Galaxy Entertainment took 28.1 per cent of the market share with US$219m<\/strong>, Sands 22.5 per cent with US$175m and Melco Resorts 19.9 per cent (US$155m). Melco was followed by Wynn (14.2 per cent), MGM (9.2 per cent) and SJM (6.1 per cent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-24-3-in-may\">Macau\u2019s gross gaming revenue (GGR)<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>reached<strong>\u00a0MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn)<\/strong>\u00a0in May, making it the\u00a0<strong>highest monthly revenue<\/strong>\u00a0since the Covid-19 pandemic started.\u00a0However, in June the city registered\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-falls-37-in-june\">a drop of 37 per cent<\/a>\u00a0month-on-month due to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-tightens-controls-amid-rise-in-covid-19-cases-in-guangdong\">an outbreak of Covid-19 cases<\/a>\u00a0in the neighbouring province of Guangdong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Macau GGR down 37 per cent in the second week of August<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second week of August, Macau&#8217;s GGR was MOP78m(US$9.7m), down 37 per cent when compared to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-down-48-for-first-week-of-august\">MOP125m (US$15.6m) in the first week<\/a>. The figure,\u00a0<strong>the lowest since last September<\/strong>, was the result of a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-on-alert-after-a-community-outbreak-of-covid-19\">community outbreak of Covid-19<\/a>\u00a0during the first week of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sanford C. Bernstein<\/strong>&nbsp;Ltd said Macau\u2019s GGR plummeted due to travel restrictions intensified by mainland China due to the outbreak. The&nbsp;<strong>number of visitors declined 78 per cent<\/strong>&nbsp;when compared to the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to authorities, the situation is now under control. The government carried out&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-mass-testing-ends-with-no-new-covid-19-cases\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mass testing for Covid-19<\/a>&nbsp;in which&nbsp;<strong>716,251 people were tested<\/strong>, all of them returning negative results. Leisure venues will be allowed to reopen from August 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s GGR for the first fifteen days of August was&nbsp;<strong>MOP1.55bn (US$193m)<\/strong>.
