The New South Wales government is considering whether to allow a transfer of poor-performing slots to The Star Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Australia.-\u00a0The Star Sydney\u00a0<\/strong>may be able to bring in 1,000 extra poker machines <\/strong>if the New South Wales government finally approves a proposal to transfer licences<\/strong>\u00a0from poor-performing machines in other areas of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Sydney Morning Herald,\u00a0the NSW Government is likely to allow the transfer\u00a0<\/strong>on the grounds that the casino can be more highly regulated than some smaller venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are currently 96,000 poker machines across 4,000 venues in New South Wales. Star has 1,500 in its venue in Prymont<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Player losses on NSW slots reach AU$2.2bn in first four months<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From January to April, the New South Wales regulator reported that\u00a0player losses on slots<\/a>\u00a0reached\u00a0AU$2.2bn.<\/strong> Almost\u00a0AU$600m losses were registered in April<\/strong>, up 12.58 per cent when compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Canterbury-Bankstown,\u00a0machines saw profits of AU$48m in April<\/strong> \u2013 player losses of AU$1.5m per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Fairfield, losses on poker machines reached almost AU$45m<\/strong> in April, while councils in Sydney, Cumberland and Blacktown reported profits between AU$96m and AU$116m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victor Dominello, the minister responsible for gaming, has pleaded for the introduction of cashless machines in order to\u00a0combat money laundering and problem gambling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Lambton club<\/a>\u00a0will be the first venue to\u00a0introduce cashless slots from September<\/strong>.
