Macau.- Authorities have announced an extension for the\u00a0validity of negative Covid-19 tests for visitors from Guangdong province to 48 hours<\/strong>. It has been shortened to 12 hours after\u00a0four local cases<\/a>\u00a0were detected the last week. The measure covers direct inbound and outbound land trips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Authorities in Macau recently carried out\u00a0mass testing for Covid-19<\/a>\u00a0in which 716,251 people were tested<\/strong>, all of them returning negative results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Andy Wu Keng Kuong<\/a>, president of Macau Travel Industry Council, said the city now expects an\u00a0average hotel occupancy rate of less than 50 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0for August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said: \u201cWe hope that the local Covid-19 situation can be controlled within 14 days<\/strong> so that hospitality businesses here can gradually pick up starting from late August.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>declined by 48 per cent in the first week of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Cloee Chao Sao Fong<\/a>, a casino labour activist who was going to be a candidate for the upcoming Legislative Assembly election on September 12, said at least two of Macau\u2019s six gaming operators had <\/strong>pushed for unpaid leave<\/a> <\/strong>in July. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Sao Fong said: \u201cUnpaid leave arrangement is inevitable for gaming workers<\/strong>.
