Macau.- With Macau\u2019s GGR<\/a>\u00a0down 48 per cent in the first week of August amid a\u00a0community outbreak of Covid-19<\/a>, casinos workers are concerned about unpaid-leave arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Cloee Chao Sao Fong<\/a>, a casino labour activist who was going to be a candidate for the upcoming Legislative Assembly election on September 12, said at least two of Macau’s six gaming operators had\u00a0pushed for unpaid leave\u00a0<\/strong>in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sao Fong said: “Unpaid leave arrangement is inevitable for gaming workers<\/strong>. We just hope\u2026 that Macau could recover soon and the unpaid leave arrangement would not last too long, as it really burdens the financial situation of the workers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n After the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the unpaid leave system was applied by the casino operators then put on hold when there was more player traffic returning to the gaming floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Analysts expect\u00a0Macau\u2019s GGR for August<\/a>\u00a0to be\u00a0down 60 per cent when compared to August 2019<\/strong>\u00a0and down 30 per cent when compared to July 2021.
