Sanford Bernstein predicts Macau won’t ease travel restrictions until next year, but an improvement in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) is expected for the fourth quarter of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Macau.- Although\u00a0Macau’s mass testing<\/a>\u00a0detected\u00a0no new Covid-19 cases<\/strong>, analysts at\u00a0Sanford Bernstein\u00a0<\/strong>believe a significant easing of travel restrictions won’t happen until next year. However, they expect\u00a0an improvement in GGR in the fourth quarter<\/strong>\u00a0of the current year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Analysts expect the current rise in Covid-19 cases in China will last at least a month, and\u00a0a Macau-Hong Kong bubble travel<\/a>\u00a0is not likely to happen soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Authorities have implemented new controls requiring\u00a0all visitors to Macau<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>from any mainland Chinese city to hold a negative\u00a0nucleic acid test certificate<\/strong>\u00a0for Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the first week of August,\u00a0GGR declined by 48 per cent<\/a>\u00a0at MOP125m (US$15.6m). The figure is the lowest since last September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sanford Bernstein revealed that\u00a0VIP average daily volumes were down 40 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>when compared to July, while average daily mass GGR dropped 50 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Analysts expected\u00a0Macau\u2019s GGR for August<\/a>\u00a0to be\u00a0down 60 per cent when compared to August 2019<\/strong>\u00a0and down 30 per cent when compared to July 2021.
