Macau.-\u00a0Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)\u00a0<\/strong>declined by 48 per cent in the first week of August after a\u00a0community outbreak of Covid-19<\/a>. At MOP125m (US$15.6m), the figure is the lowest registered since last September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sanford Bernstein said: \u201cThe week\u2019s sharp GGR deterioration was caused by the travel disruptions<\/strong>\u00a0after Macau detected four local Covid-19 cases on August 3.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Analysts expected\u00a0Macau’s GGR for August<\/a>\u00a0to be\u00a0down 60 per cent when compared to August 2019<\/strong>\u00a0and down 30 per cent when compared to July 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Andy Wu Keng Kuong<\/a>, president of Macau Travel Industry Council, said the city now expects an average hotel occupancy rate of less than 50 per cent<\/strong> for August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said: \u201cWe hope that the local Covid-19 situation can be controlled within 14 days<\/strong> so that hospitality businesses here can gradually pick up starting from late August.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, he said it may take another month to see a recovery in tourist arrivals.
