Japan.- <\/strong>Out of the eight candidates confirmed for Yokohama’s mayoral elections on August 22, only two are in favour of an integrated resort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to local media reports, Yokohama\u2019s current\u00a0pro-IR mayor<\/a>\u00a0Fumiko Hayashi\u00a0<\/strong>has a good chance of winning. However, due to a large amount of opposition to an IR,\u00a0she’s unlikely to win by a large majority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The other pro-IR candidate is Mineyuki Fukuda, a former Cabinet Office vice-minister who resigned from the Liberal Democratic Party to join the Party of Hope. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As for anti-IR candidates, there is\u00a0Hachiro Okonogi<\/a>, who is supported by Yoshihide Suga, Japan\u2019s prime minister, who has encouraged the\u00a0Liberal Democratic Party<\/a>\u00a0to support him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Takeharu Yamanaka<\/strong>, a professor at Yokohama City University, has been chosen as\u00a0the candidate to represent the CDPJ<\/a>. He\u2019s known to disagree with the development of an integrated resort, arguing that it could cause issues with gambling addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other candidates include\u00a0Masataka Ota<\/a>,\u00a0Akiko Fujimura<\/a>\u00a0and Yoshiyuki Tsubokura. The first is 75 years old and a member of the Constitutional Democratic Party.
