It had been demanding the insurer cover losses incurred due to lockdown measures during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last November,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/star-sues-insurance-provider-for-covid-19-losses\">the casino operator sued the insurance company<\/a>\u00a0arguing that\u00a0<strong>Covid-19 lockdown measures fall under \u201cspecial risks\u201d<\/strong> under \u201crisks of business interruption\u201d in an insurance policy signed in November 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Star Entertainment<\/strong>&nbsp;was seeking AU$4bn for its Sydney casino, AU$1.75bn for its Gold Coast casino and AU$1.43bn for its Brisbane casino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chubb said the lockdowns were not covered under the policy, arguing that the government\u2019s actions had not caused any physical loss or damage of insured property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court ruled in favour of Chubb, however,\u00a0<strong>Star has 28 days to appeal<\/strong>.\u00a0A Star spokesperson said that the company was \u201creviewing the judgement and considering our position\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case could be<strong>\u00a0a watershed as many other gaming operators have filed similar lawsuits<\/strong>. In June, a group of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australia-pubs-in-melbourne-demand-payout-due-to-covid-19-impact\">nine pubs in Melbourne<\/a>\u00a0demanded insurers pay out for the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group of pubs\u00a0<strong>was claiming $26m<\/strong>\u00a0due to the impact of Covid-19 countermeasures.
