Ian Couglan, Wynn Macau president, has said he is confident Macau will control the local Covid-19 cases within a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.- With Macau launching pandemic prevention<\/a> measures following the detection of four Covid-19 cases, Ian Couglan<\/strong>, Wynn Macau president, has said he is confident\u00a0that the outbreak will quickly be under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casinos remain open for now, though Couglan said a return to “normal levels” of business will depend on an increase in the vaccination rate\u00a0<\/strong>in the city and its neighbouring provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Ministry of Health, 44 per cent of the population has been vaccinated<\/strong>, a rate similar to Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt Maddox, Wynn’s chief executive, added: “We don\u2019t know how long this is going to last, but the experience thus far \u2013 with the decisive action, and the ability to test millions of people just in a matter of days in the region and Macau \u2013 does give us\u00a0great hope that this will pass<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tai Wa Hou<\/strong>, Macau\u2019s health official, has urged people to avoid non-essential travel while authorities said they would conduct mass testing of the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have implemented controls requiring\u00a0all visitors to Macau<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>from any mainland Chinese city to hold a negative\u00a0nucleic acid test certificate<\/strong>\u00a0for Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ho Iat Seng<\/strong>, Macau\u2019s Chief Executive, has said that despite cases of Covid-19 in the city,\u00a0authorities won\u2019t close casinos for now<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that if Macau cannot reach the\u00a0MOP130bn (US$16.28bn) in GGR that it forecast for 2021<\/a>\u00a0due to the Covid-19 pandemic,\u00a0the government will revise its budget<\/strong>\u00a0for the current fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, Lei Wai Nong<\/strong>, Macau\u2019s secretary for economy and finance, said Macau still expected GGR to reach MOP130bn (US$16.28bn) for 2021 <\/strong>despite lower than expected results in the first half.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
