The Macau Statistics and Census Bureau has reported that the average occupancy rate at Macau hotels was up 23.2 per cent in the first half of the year when compared to the prior-year period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that\u00a03,378,000 tourists checked into Macau hotels and guesthouses<\/strong>\u00a0in the first six months of the year. The average hotel occupancy rate reached 50.4 per cent<\/p>\n\n\n\n The number was\u00a0up 23.2 per cent from the prior-year period<\/strong>. According to the DSEC, the\u00a0highest average hotel occupancy rate was registered in May<\/strong>, when Macau also saw the\u00a0highest GGR<\/a>\u00a0of the year to date thanks to the\u00a0Labour Day break<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Macau\u2019s Public Security Police reported that\u00a0165,500 tourists came to Macau\u00a0<\/strong>in May. The average occupancy rate reached 62.1 per cent while in June it declined to 45.3 per cent, partly due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in\u00a0Guangdong province<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the first 15 days of July, Macau\u2019s average hotel occupancy rate reached 52.1 per cent.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)<\/strong> director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes<\/a> has said she believes Macau may see an average nightly hotel occupancy rate of between 70 per cent to 80 per cent<\/strong> during the summer holiday months of July and August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Macau\u2019s GGR<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>fell in June after months of improvement, registering a decline of 37 per cent to\u00a0MOP$6.54bn ($817.3m)<\/strong>, from\u00a0MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn)<\/strong>\u00a0in May. However, the number represents an increase of\u00a0813 per cent from June 2020,\u00a0<\/strong>when the city registered GGR of MOP$716m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Macau will also launch the \u201cStay, Dine and See Macao\u201d<\/strong> initiative to let Macau residents book government-subsidised staycations at hotels and guest houses.
