{"id":20784,"date":"2021-07-28T16:19:52","date_gmt":"2021-07-28T16:19:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=20784"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:11:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T20:11:28","slug":"grand-lisboa-palace-partial-opening-announced-for-july-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/grand-lisboa-palace-partial-opening-announced-for-july-30","title":{"rendered":"Grand Lisboa Palace partial opening announced for July 30"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, SJM Holdings chairman, has said Grand Lisboa Palace will one of its hotel towers with 300 rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- It was expected that <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/grand-lisboa-palace-looks-set-to-open-by-september\">Grand Lisboa Palace<\/a>\u00a0would finally open by September<strong>,<\/strong> and it seems it could be happening as early as this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daisy Ho<\/strong>, SJM chairman and executive director, has said that the new venue will hold <strong>a partial opening on Friday, July 30<\/strong>. It will open one of the towers with 300 rooms at the HK$39bn (US$5bn) development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ho also revealed\u00a0that <strong>the venue has received approval for 150 gaming tables<\/strong>. The company is still analysing how many of those will be available on opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ho said: &#8220;We will slowly increase the number of rooms according to actual demand, that\u2019s the plan.\u00a0<strong>The second phase will depend on the pandemic<\/strong>\u00a0and travel restrictions.\u00a0We hope that by the end of this year we should be able to open up entirely.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When complete Grand Lisboa Palace will have<strong> around 2,000 hotel rooms<\/strong>\u00a0split between three venues: The Lisboa Palace Hotel, Palazzo Versace Macau, and Karl Lagerfeld Hotel luxury boutique hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will have <strong>27,000 square metres of gaming floor space\u00a0<\/strong>(290,000 sq ft) for up to\u00a0<strong>700 gaming tables and 1,200 electronic gaming machines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SJM Resorts to manage Diamond Casino at Holliday Inn hotel<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to losses caused by the<strong>\u00a0Covid-19 pandemic<\/strong>, SJM Resorts has decided to take over the management of the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/sjm-to-take-over-management-of-diamond-casino-due-to-covid-19-losses\">Diamond Casino<\/a>. According to Allin Media,\u00a0<strong>the casino reported no income for 18 months\u00a0<\/strong>and operations were to cease on July 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Diamond Casino is&nbsp;<strong>one of SJM\u2019s satellite casinos<\/strong>. It holds 28 gaming tables and 48 slot machines, plus VIP rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SJM also wants to operate a casino at the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/sjm-wants-to-operate-a-casino-at-lisboeta\">Lisboeta<\/a>, located next to the Macau East Asian Games Dome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lisboeta is part of a bigger project,<strong>\u00a0the Macau Theme Park and Resort<\/strong>, or Lisboeta Macau Park.
