Authorities in Cambodia hope to reopen the country’s borders in November amid efforts to increase the vaccination rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Cambodia.- The government of\u00a0Cambodia<\/strong> has said that it hopes to reopen the country’s borders <\/strong>in November<\/strong>,\u00a0although some believe that could be delayed until December or early 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A week ago,\u00a0the government<\/a>\u00a0suspended entries and exits with Vietnam<\/strong>\u00a0in an attempt to avoid a rise in Covid-19 cases. The\u00a0news impacted casino operators<\/strong>\u00a0as casinos in Cambodia mostly employ Vietnamese citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under new rules, Vietnamese employees that are currently in Cambodia cannot return home, <\/strong>while those in Vietnam cannot enter Cambodia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are only exceptions for patients seeking medical treatment in Vietnam<\/strong> and diplomats or officials under a mission at the invitation of either country\u2019s authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Khmer Times, a source from the government stated: “Without tourism, the economy is going to dry up<\/strong> because locals do not have the same money as people coming in from outside the country.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, the government is aiming to increase the number of people vaccinated. The capital Phnom Penh has claimed a 100 per cent vaccination rate, causing some to speculate that it could be the ideal location for the country\u2019s first travel bubble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this week it was announced that venues, including NagaWorld casino would be closed for another two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NagaWorld<\/a>, the only casino resort authorised to operate in Phnom Penh, suspended operations in March\u00a0after 11 staff members tested positive for Covid-19<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June,\u00a0NagaCorp<\/a>, the company that operates the casino, reported that it expects\u00a0to recover by 2022\u00a0<\/strong>as long as NagaWorld resumes operations in the second half of 2021. It said\u00a0NagaCorp\u2019s revenue could reach 40 per cent of pre-pandemic levels<\/strong>\u00a0if NagaWorld reopened in the next few months.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
