{"id":20676,"date":"2021-07-26T16:32:45","date_gmt":"2021-07-26T16:32:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=20676"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:15:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T20:15:22","slug":"cambodia-phnom-penh-extends-covid-19-measures-until-august-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/cambodia-phnom-penh-extends-covid-19-measures-until-august-6","title":{"rendered":"Cambodia: Phnom Penh extends Covid-19 measures until August 6"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Cambodian capital has announced that countermeasures will remain in place until August 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Cambodia.- The government of<strong>\u00a0Cambodia <\/strong>has announced that venues in Phnom Penh will have to\u00a0<strong>remain closed until August 6<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from NagaWorld casino, the measure includes schools, karaoke bars, nightclubs and beer gardens, resorts, museums and amusement parks, massage businesses, cinemas, theatres, fitness clubs and sports centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/cambodia-nagaworld-remains-closed-due-to-new-covid-19-restrictions\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NagaWorld<\/a>, the only casino resort authorised to operate in Phnom Penh, suspended operations in March&nbsp;<strong>after 11 staff members tested positive for Covid-19<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nagacorp-revenue-to-reach-40-of-pre-pandemic-levels-in-2021\">NagaCorp<\/a>, the company that operates the casino, reported that it expects<strong>\u00a0to recover by 2022\u00a0<\/strong>as long as NagaWorld resumes operations in the second half of 2021. It said<strong>\u00a0NagaCorp\u2019s revenue could reach 40 per cent of pre-pandemic levels<\/strong>\u00a0if NagaWorld reopened in the next few months.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NagaCorp\u00a0announced plans to reduce pay and lay off employees<strong>\u00a0to improve cost efficiency<\/strong>, which was highly criticised by labour unions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has also listed\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nagacorp-lists-us200m-in-senior-notes\">US$200m 7.95 per cent senior notes<\/a>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>which will not be convertible into shares. According to Moody\u2019s, the notes could provide\u00a0<strong>NagaCorp \u201csufficient liquidity\u201d to support its cash needs<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cover the next 18 to 24 months\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group will<strong>\u00a0use the funds to strengthen the group\u2019s working capital<\/strong>\u00a0as well as for general corporate purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cambodian authorities close the country\u2019s borders with Vietnam<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The government of Cambodia has<strong>\u00a0suspended entries and exits with Vietnam<\/strong>\u00a0in an attempt to avoid a rise in Covid-19 cases. Under new rules,\u00a0<strong>Vietnamese employees that are currently in Cambodia cannot return home,\u00a0<\/strong>while those in Vietnam cannot enter Cambodia.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are only&nbsp;<strong>exceptions for patients seeking medical treatment in Vietnam<\/strong>&nbsp;and diplomats or officials under a mission at the invitation of either country\u2019s authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As Vietnamese citizens are only permitted to enter two casinos:<\/strong>&nbsp;one on the southern island of Phu Quoc and the other in Van Don, in the northern province of Quang Ninh, Vietnamese gamblers usually cross borders to enter Cambodian casinos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cambodian capital has announced that countermeasures will remain in place until August 6.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":20677,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Phnom Penh's venues, including NagaWorld casino, will remain closed until August 6 due to COVID-19 countermeasures.
