It warned that it could lead to unintended consequences as\u00a0<strong>Tabocorp has lost ground to online competitors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The debate around the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/banks-australia-credit-gambling\">use of credit cards<\/a>\u00a0for online gambling began back in 2019\u00a0when an association launched a public consultation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March,\u00a0<strong>Queensland MP Andrew Wallace<\/strong>\u00a0said that Australia\u2019s four biggest banks backed plans to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australian-banks-support-credit-card-ban-on-online-gambling\">ban credit card<\/a>\u00a0spending on online gambling. Some banks have already introduced a ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Credit cards<strong>\u00a0are already banned from being used at casinos<\/strong>, but the same restrictions do not apply for the<strong>\u00a0digital gambling sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A parliament committee will\u00a0<strong>analyse the regulatory frameworks in force in other jurisdictions<\/strong>\u00a0and is expected to deliver a report <strong>by July 30<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Australian Parliament, the ban must be introduced urgently as\u00a0the number of players using online gambling <strong>increased during the Covid-19 pandemic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tabcorp has also expressed concerns about the rise of online betting and has proposed that the Commonwealth take responsibility for regulating gambling during the period of\u00a0<strong>establishment of a single national gambling regulatory body<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA)<\/strong>, an independent trade advocacy body for Australian\u2011licensed wagering providers has spoken against a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australian-gambling-companies-against-block-on-credit-cards\">ban on credit card gambling<\/a>.
