{"id":20486,"date":"2021-07-20T15:54:40","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T15:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=20486"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:25:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T20:25:44","slug":"macau-visitor-arrivals-up-20-2-in-h1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitor-arrivals-up-20-2-in-h1","title":{"rendered":"Macau visitor arrivals up 20.2% in H1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Macau registered 3.93m visitor arrivals in the first half of the year, up 20.2 per cent from the previous period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that Macau <strong>welcomed 3.93m tourists in the first half of 2021<\/strong>, up 20.2 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of those that visited<strong>\u00a0Macau in the first half, 90.7 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0came from mainland China, which is the only country to have a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/covid-19-vaccine-passports-could-speed-up-macau-tourism-recovery\">largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a>\u00a0with Macau.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overnight stays during the first six months of the year<\/strong> reached 2.06m, up 33.2 per cent from last year. The number of same-day visitors was 1.87m, with an average length stay of 1.6 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/rise-in-macau-visitor-numbers-after-guangdong-restrictions-eased\">the average hotel occupancy rate<\/a>\u00a0dropped below 50 per cent, mainly due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-tightens-controls-amid-rise-in-covid-19-cases-in-guangdong\">Guangdong province<\/a>. In May, the average room occupancy rate for five-star hotels in Macau had been 67.1 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During June, Macau reported some 528,519 visitors, of which 313,441 were same-day visitors and 215,078 were overnight visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-falls-37-in-june\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)<\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>also<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>fell in June after months of improvement, registering a decline of 37 per cent to&nbsp;<strong>MOP$6.54bn ($817.3m)<\/strong>, from&nbsp;<strong>MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn)<\/strong>&nbsp;in May<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)<\/strong>\u00a0director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said she believes Macau could welcome 7 million to 8 million visitors in 2021 based on the numbers the city registered during the first five months of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Macau registered 3.93m visitor arrivals in the first half of the year, up 20.2 per cent from the previous period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":17469,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau recorded 3.93 million visitor arrivals in H1 2021, a 20.2% year-on-year increase, with 90.7% from mainland China.
