The <strong>news will impact on casino operators<\/strong>\u00a0as casinos in Cambodia mostly employ Vietnamese citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under new rules,\u00a0<strong>Vietnamese employees that are currently in Cambodia will not be able to return home,\u00a0<\/strong>while those in Vietnam cannot enter Cambodia.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will only be\u00a0<strong>exceptions for patients seeking medical treatment in Vietnam<\/strong>\u00a0and diplomats or officials under a mission at the invitation of either country\u2019s authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As Vietnamese citizens are only permitted to enter two casinos:<\/strong>\u00a0one on the southern island of Phu Quoc and the other in Van Don, in the northern province of Quang Ninh, Vietnamese gamblers usually cross borders to enter Cambodian casinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, the Ministry of Finance proposed an extension of the scheme that allows&nbsp;<strong>Vietnamese citizens&nbsp;<\/strong>to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/vietnam-locals-access-to-casinos-to-be-extended-until-2024\">gamble at selected casinos<\/a>&nbsp;until 2024 but authorities stated they won&#8217;t expand the scheme to other casino operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has tight restrictions on who can enter the properties:&nbsp;<strong>players must be aged over 21 and earn a minimum of VND$10m (US$430) a month<\/strong>. Players must also have no criminal record and no objections from their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>scheme was to be reviewed next year,&nbsp;<\/strong>but the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and lack of tourism have led authorities to extend the permission on locals\u2019 access to casinos until 2024.
