The gaming industry filed 693 suspicious transactions reports in Macau in the first six months of 2021, up 49.4 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Macau.- The\u00a0Macau Financial Intelligence Office<\/strong>\u00a0has reported 693 Suspicious Transaction Report (STRs)\u00a0<\/strong>related to the gaming industry in the first half of the year 2021,\u00a0an increase of 49.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The total number of\u00a0suspicious transactions rose to 1,288,<\/strong>\u00a0up 36 per cent year-on-year, so 53.8 per cent of reports came from gaming operators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Financial and insurance institutions<\/strong>\u00a0accounted for\u00a0415 reports<\/strong>\u00a0up 25 per cent from the same period last year. Reports about\u00a0other institutions\u00a0<\/strong>accounted for 180, up 19.2 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2020, the gaming industry filed 1,215 STRs in Macau, accounting for 54.6 per cent of reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The government continues to eye changes to Macau\u2019s gaming industry. With amendments to Macau\u2019s current gaming law<\/a> on the way, authorities also want to improve the efficiency <\/strong>of controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Macau\u2019s Executive Council<\/a> has drawn up a draft proposal that seeks to restructure the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) to increase the number of gaming inspectors from 192 to 459<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The amendment also proposes adding an extra director of the DICJ<\/strong> to better develop tasks related to the coordination of the divisions within the bureau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The current DICJ director, Adriano Marques Ho<\/a>, was appointed in May to replace Paulo Martins Chan<\/a> after he resigned from the position<\/strong>. Ho started his term on June 10 and will remain DICJ director for two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\nAuthorities plan to add more gaming inspectors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
