{"id":20320,"date":"2021-07-15T16:12:19","date_gmt":"2021-07-15T16:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=20320"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:35:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T20:35:02","slug":"macau-suspicious-transactions-reports-up-49-4-in-h1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-suspicious-transactions-reports-up-49-4-in-h1","title":{"rendered":"Macau: suspicious transactions reports up 49.4% in H1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The gaming industry filed 693 suspicious transactions reports in Macau in the first six months of 2021, up 49.4 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The<strong>\u00a0Macau Financial Intelligence Office<\/strong>\u00a0has reported <strong>693 Suspicious Transaction Report (STRs)\u00a0<\/strong>related to the gaming industry in the first half of the year 2021,\u00a0<strong>an increase of 49.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total number of\u00a0<strong>suspicious transactions rose to 1,288,<\/strong>\u00a0up 36 per cent year-on-year, so 53.8 per cent of reports came from gaming operators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Financial and insurance institutions<\/strong>\u00a0accounted for<strong>\u00a0415 reports<\/strong>\u00a0up 25 per cent from the same period last year. Reports about\u00a0<strong>other institutions\u00a0<\/strong>accounted for 180, up 19.2 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020, the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-suspicious-transactions-reports-fall-24-in-2020\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gaming industry filed 1,215 STRs in Macau, accounting for 54.6 per cent of reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Authorities plan to add more gaming inspectors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The government continues to eye changes to Macau\u2019s gaming industry. With&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-to-launch-consultation-on-gaming-rights-in-second-half\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amendments to Macau\u2019s current gaming law<\/a>&nbsp;on the way, authorities also want to<strong>&nbsp;improve the efficiency&nbsp;<\/strong>of controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-may-double-its-number-of-gaming-inspectors\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau\u2019s Executive Council<\/a>&nbsp;has drawn up a draft proposal that seeks to restructure the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) to<strong>&nbsp;increase the number of gaming inspectors from 192 to 459<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The amendment also proposes adding an extra&nbsp;<strong>director of the DICJ<\/strong>&nbsp;to better develop tasks related to the coordination of the divisions within the bureau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current DICJ director,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-adriano-ho-to-continue-as-dicj-director-until-2023\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adriano Marques Ho<\/a>, was appointed in May to replace&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-inspection-director\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paulo Martins Chan<\/a>&nbsp;<strong>after he resigned from the position<\/strong>.
