Press release.- HK$136bn (\u00a312,672,887,694) has been wagered <\/strong>across the campaign\u2019s 88 race meetings, marking the first time that turnover has risen above the HK$130bn mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sha Tin and Happy Valley played host to a record 835 races <\/strong>through the course of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Joao Moreira<\/strong>, known as the Magic Man by his faithful followers, was crowned champion jockey with 157 wins<\/strong>, 32 more than nearest rival and last season\u2019s winner Zac Purton, while Caspar Fownes clinched the trainers\u2019 title after a good tussle with 11-time champion John Size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges<\/strong>, Chief Executive Officer of the HKJC, said: \u201cWe are delighted to have been able to again complete a full season with a clear focus of ensuring racing to continue <\/strong>while upholding the principle of protecting the public health and safety of our employees, stakeholders and the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The remarkable season turnover has enabled us to contribute more for the betterment of our society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe collective discipline of all participants \u2013 trainers, jockeys, owners, employees and customers \u2013 has been especially heartening in these trying times. In that sense, nothing about this wonderful display of Hong Kong\u2019s enterprising spirit<\/strong> and \u2018can-do\u2019 attitude is surprising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI am thankful to our employees for their dedication and hard work, and to our licensed persons who demonstrated strong integrity to keeping racing going. The Dubai World Cup meeting set a turnover record of HK$332m (\u00a330.9m) in March<\/strong> before this year\u2019s Royal Ascot King\u2019s Stand Day surpassed that figure with HK$340m (\u00a331.6m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Total turnover on World Pool meetings was up HK$1771.3m (\u00a3164.8m)<\/strong> or 108.6 per cent, while the commingled component was up HK$313m (\u00a329.1m) or 88.1 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr. Engelbrecht-Bresges said: \u201cGiven the circumstances confronting the Club, our overall season racing turnover of more than HK$136bn is outstanding<\/strong>. The growth in turnover is testament to the quality of our product and the support of our customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTo achieve these types of figures underpins the importance of horse racing to Hong Kong and its people.
