{"id":20191,"date":"2021-07-13T14:41:44","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T14:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=20191"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:39:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T20:39:38","slug":"rising-covid-19-cases-halts-jeju-travel-bubble-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/rising-covid-19-cases-halts-jeju-travel-bubble-plans","title":{"rendered":"Rising Covid-19 cases halts Jeju travel bubble plans"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Plans to attract foreign tourists to Jeju island may be delayed due to an outbreak of Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>South Korea.- Plans to launch a&nbsp;<strong>travel bubble between Jeju island and neighbouring countries<\/strong>&nbsp;may be on hold due to a rise in Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After five days of double-digit new cases, the government has <strong>increased restrictions\u00a0<\/strong>and the tourism sector is reporting that people have started to cancel reservations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It now seems unlikely that international routes will be able to open under the current circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are&nbsp;<strong>eight foreigner-only casinos located on Jeju island<\/strong>, although only&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/south-korea-only-two-jeju-casinos-currently-open\">three of them<\/a>&nbsp;are currently operating, including the recently opened&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/jeju-dream-tower-casino-officially-opens\">Jeju Dream Tower casino<\/a>. They have been<strong>&nbsp;suffering from a lack of tourists&nbsp;<\/strong>and multiple closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/jeju-casino-sales-down-63-6-in-2020\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">casinos on Jeju island<\/a>&nbsp;saw&nbsp;<strong>sales decline by 63.6 per cent year-on-year<\/strong>&nbsp;2020 to&nbsp;<strong>KRW69.30bn (US$61.5m)<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>That compares to sales of KRW190.0bn (US$168.7m)<\/strong>&nbsp;in 2019, before the global Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only<strong>&nbsp;four Jeju casinos out of a total of 16 foreigner-only venues remained operational through most of 2020<\/strong>: Paradise Co\u2019s Paradise Casino Jeju Grand, Landing Casino at Jeju Shinhwa World, Casino Lotte Tour at Lotte Hotel Jeju and Gongzi Jeju.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plans to attract foreign tourists to Jeju island may be delayed due to an outbreak of Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":19350,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The planned travel bubble for Jeju Island, South Korea, faces delays due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, significantly impacting the island's foreigner-only casino sector.
