However, the party may still support Hayashi if the party believes she could win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/yokohama-new-anti-ir-candidate-emerges\">Yasuo Tanaka<\/a>, former governor of Nagano prefecture, announced his intention to stand in the <strong>mayoral election on August<\/strong> 22, the number of potential anti-IR candidates now stands at eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Mainichi Shinbun, the<strong>\u00a0chances of Hayashi winning the race\u00a0<\/strong>with close to 40 per cent of the vote are improving. The current mayor may be able to count on the <strong>support of the Yokohama Chamber of Commerce &amp; Industry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the anti-IR parties, it\u00a0<strong>seems unlikely they will unite behind a single candidate<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June,\u00a0<strong>Takeharu Yamanaka<\/strong>\u00a0was selected as\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/yokohama-opposition-still-seeking-anti-ir-mayoral-candidate\">the candidate to represent the CDPJ<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yamanaka is 48 years old and<strong>\u00a0works as a professor at Yokohama City University<\/strong>. He specialises in public health and medical statistics and has recently been working on anti-Covid-19 countermeasures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s known to disagree with the development of an integrated resort, arguing that it could cause issues with gambling addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CDPJ had&nbsp;<strong>hoped to select a unified opposition candidate by April<\/strong>&nbsp;to stand on an anti-IR ticket.
