{"id":19856,"date":"2021-07-05T14:33:01","date_gmt":"2021-07-05T14:33:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=19856"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:55:58","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T20:55:58","slug":"macau-occupancy-rate-could-reach-80-during-summer-holiday-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-occupancy-rate-could-reach-80-during-summer-holiday-period","title":{"rendered":"Macau occupancy rate could reach 80% during summer holiday period"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Macau hopes the summer holiday months of July and August will see an improvement for the tourism and gaming sectors after a weak June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.-<strong>&nbsp;The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)<\/strong>&nbsp;director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes has said she believes Macau may see an&nbsp;<strong>average nightly hotel occupancy rate of between 70 per cent to 80 per cent<\/strong>&nbsp;during the summer holiday months of July and August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That would be a marked <strong>improvement after a weak June<\/strong>, which saw the average hotel occupancy rate drop below 50 per cent, mainly due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-tightens-controls-amid-rise-in-covid-19-cases-in-guangdong\">the Guangdong province<\/a>. In May, the average room occupancy rate for five-star hotels in Macau had been 67.1 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-falls-37-in-june\">Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)<\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>also<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>fell in June after months of improvement, registering a decline of 37 per cent to&nbsp;<strong>MOP$6.54bn ($817.3m)<\/strong>, from&nbsp;<strong>MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn)<\/strong>&nbsp;in May. However, the number represents an increase of&nbsp;<strong>813 per cent from June 2020,&nbsp;<\/strong>when the city registered GGR of MOP$716m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau will also launch the&nbsp;<strong>\u201cStay, Dine and See Macao\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;initiative to let Macau residents book government-subsidised staycations at hotels and guest houses. It ran a similar initiative during the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-considers-extending-tourism-incentives-to-rest-of-asia\">Labour Day break<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Macau seeks to ease restrictions with Hong Kong<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the summer holiday break approaching,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-to-decide-if-hong-kong-visitors-can-enter-casinos\">the Macau government<\/a>&nbsp;is reported to be planning to allow&nbsp;<strong>quarantine-free inbound travel&nbsp;<\/strong>to visitors coming from Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 51 hotels have expressed an interest in the plans. One of the key matters being discussed is the&nbsp;<strong>possibility of allowing access to casino floors<\/strong>, most likely with limits on visitor numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities are also considering&nbsp;<strong>an application system for those who wish to visit Macau<\/strong>. Visitors must have been <strong>fully vaccinated against Covid-19 <\/strong>at least 14 days before travel would be allowed to enter Macau.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors will also need to present a<strong> negative Covid-19 test taken within 48 hours<\/strong> and a negative result from a test taken upon arrival in Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will also have to&nbsp;<strong>present the Macao Health Code,&nbsp;<\/strong>the government document that classifies health status by colour: red, yellow, and green. A blue colour may be added for those arriving from Hong Kong.
